The online course delivers the Texas Private Security Program-approved curriculum for non-commissioned security officers, covering the roles and responsibilities of security officers, legal aspects of security work, security communications, and responses to emergencies and safety hazards.

Your agency’s departmental policy may supersede the practices taught in this course.

Course Information

Course Completion Requirements

Participants are required to complete all necessary fields, including information about their U.S. citizenship or permanent residency status. Additionally, they must meet all attendance and course completion requirements. If any of this information is missing, the participant will be considered incomplete and will not receive a certificate of completion.
  • Participants must complete the eCourse within 30 days of the registration date.
  • You are allowed three attempts to pass the final examination. 
  • To successfully finish this course, a computer with internet access is required.
  • All participants must review each training module and complete all necessary assignments, activities, quizzes, and the end-of-course exam.

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  1. Describe the fundamental roles and responsibilities of security officers across various contexts.
  2. Understand the rules and state laws that apply to security officers.
  3. Demonstrate effective and professional language for resolving conflicts in the field.
  4. Recognize appropriate responses to incidents using the Use of Force Continuum.
  5. Determine situations in which it is appropriate and legal for a security officer to make an arrest.
  6. Relate relevant portions of the Penal Code concerning the use of force in security operations.
  7. Identify essential elements for effective verbal and written communication.
  8. Explain the roles assumed by security officers during emergencies or hazardous incidents.

  • Please allow 48-72 business hours for your PSP-36 certificate to be emailed to you. The one you see on your student portal upon course completion is not the official PSP-36 certificate.
  • Successful completion of this course provides certification that you have met the classroom/online training requirements for application to the TOPS database as an “Unarmed Registration – Non-Commissioned Security Officer.” You must apply for your license with Texas DPS and meet all application requirements to be approved by Texas DPS, hired as a W2 employee with a licensed guard company, and receive your pocket card before initiating any security work (paid or unpaid).
